MISAPOR foam glass gravel

Products

Our products are tailored to the different applications, the base material is surplus used glass. All MISAPOR products are reusable if installed correctly and can be returned to MISAPOR within Switzerland. This is how the cycle works!

Properties of foam glass gravel

Dämmend

MISAPOR insulates

From simple perimeter insulation (without frost walls!) to complete systems that can be used horizontally and vertically, MISAPOR guarantees thermal bridge-free construction.
leicht

MISAPOR is lightweight

MISAPOR is up to 10 times lighter than gravel and therefore only places a low load on structures. Load-bearing structures can therefore be designed to be slimmer - which saves money. Even in heavy rainfall, the weight of MISAPOR remains constant because the cellular glass is closed-cell and does not absorb water.
Tragfest

MISAPOR stabilized

With a simple floor replacement, the excavation is replaced with MISAPOR, thus reducing the load on the floor. As cellular glass is around ten times lighter than soil material, the replacement quickly becomes significant. Example: With 10 cubic meters of soil replacement, you already relieve the site by 15 tons!
Drainierend

MISAPOR drains

Foam glass is closed-cell, so the water does not penetrate, but rolls off. In addition, the external shape and grain size always guarantee sufficient gaps through which the water can drain away. Ask us about the longitudinal and transverse drainage performance at different load levels.
Frostsicher

MISAPOR protects against frost

The closed cell structure prevents water from penetrating and the dreaded damage caused by freeze/thaw cycles is ruled out with MISAPOR.
Schüttung rollt nicht

MISAPOR does not roll

MISAPOR can be perfectly leveled, but it doesn't have to be, because the angular MISAPOR blocks with their rough surface do not roll. This enables modeling up to 45 degrees without lateral support.
Brennt nicht

MISAPOR does not burn

Foam glass is absolutely fire-resistant and therefore also ideally suited for applications in building construction that place high demands on fire protection. In contrast to heat-critical insulation materials made from petroleum products, MISAPOR can withstand temperatures of up to 600 degrees Celsius (fire class A1 according to ISO EN13501).
Nachhaltiges Produkt

MISAPOR is sustainable

MISAPOR relies on 100% recycled glass and therefore does not engage in overexploitation. Even at the end of its life cycle, MISAPOR, which is absolutely resistant to ageing, can be reused elsewhere without hesitation.

Manufacture

From glass to foam glass

To become foam glass, the used glass must first be ground. The ground glass is then baked. This is done with 2% pure mineral “baking powder” in an oven at over 950 degrees. During this process, the glass mass foams up and finally leaves the oven as foam glass. During the rapid cooling process, MISAPOR crumbles to the size of gravel. The finished “MISAPOR bricks” consist of 98% glass, 2% minerals and a lot of trapped air. And it is precisely this air that is responsible for the outstanding properties of the new building material: thermal insulation and lightness.

Modern infrastructure

The production of foam glass gravel requires a lot of heat and therefore also energy. By using new furnace and planning technology, MISAPOR has steadily reduced its energy requirements in recent years. In 2025, the last fossil-fuel drying plant for glass processing was shut down. The entire operation is electrified.

Quality assurance

Compliance with the approval values is a matter of course for us – as are regular checks and additional tests. We check bulk density and compressive strength on a daily basis.

Thanks to state-of-the-art laboratories in our factories, we can ensure the highest level of quality at all times. Our tests deliver values that far exceed the minimum requirements. Daily material checks confirm the outstanding quality of our cellular glass ballast – this is simply important to us for our planners and users.

For us, quality starts with the selection and testing of the raw material. We produce the glass powder from recycled glass on site with the utmost care. With this control over the entire production process, we guarantee our customers the highest quality and safety. We are proud to say:
Our unique quality management is unrivaled in the industry!
