Upcycling
High collection rates lead to structural surpluses, as the glass industry cannot work with 100% used glass. The conventional recycling approach therefore needs to be expanded. The question arises as to how these surpluses can be turned into new products that complement or even completely replace existing, resource-intensive products in terms of their function and properties.

MISAPOR is baked in the oven – by adding mineral activators, the ground waste glass expands to seven times its original volume. As it cools, the foam glass cake then separates into the familiar gravel shape.
Recycling of surplus used glass
Every year, MISAPOR processes around 40,000 tons of used glass into an innovative and sustainable building material. In particular, bottle glass of the mixed glass and green glass types is recycled.
What does upcycling mean?
Upcycling is the process of transforming waste products or unused materials into new, valuable products. Instead of disposing of or recycling the materials, the aim is to conserve resources and reduce waste.
